“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own insight.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.”
— Proverbs 3:5-6
Running is a process, and takes time and commitment…and TRUST
No one wakes up one morning and effortlessly runs a marathon. Progress comes through daily commitment—one step at a time, one mile at a time. Some days feel exhilarating, while others are marked by struggle and slow improvement. The same is true of our faith journey.
I remember my less-committed days, when I’d roll out of bed on race morning for the Richmond Half Marathon, thinking 13.1 miles wouldn’t be that bad. It kind of was, though. Those races were brutal. I thought I could rely on talent and past experience, but I quickly learned that if you want real results, you have to put in the work—and trust the process.
Lent invites us to embrace God’s slow, intentional work in our lives. We live in a world that craves instant results, yet spiritual growth—like running endurance—doesn’t happen overnight. Proverbs reminds us to trust in the Lord, even when we don’t see immediate change. Growth happens in the steady, faithful steps we take each day.
Maybe you’re in a season where the road ahead feels unclear, or progress seems too slow. Perhaps you’re wrestling with doubts, longing for answers, or struggling with patience. Take heart—God is still at work, guiding your steps even when you can’t see the full path. Just as each run builds strength over time, each prayer, act of faith, and moment of surrender deepens your trust in God.
Lace up, take the next step, and trust the process. God is leading you forward.
Reflect Today
Where do you struggle to trust God’s timing in your life? How can you embrace patience in both your spiritual journey and your running?
