The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!’
— Matthew 21:9
Yesterday, in the calendar of the church, was Palm Sunday. A time when we hear the story of Jesus riding into Jerusalem to shouts of “HOSANNA.” A seemingly joyous moment.
Yet, it is one that also holds quite a bit of tension when we consider its place in the larger narrative that is this coming week. For those who know this story, we know that Jesus enters Jerusalem and thereby enters the final days of his earthly ministry.
We enter this week, knowing the gravity of what is to come, just as Jesus did.
The final week
It is the final week of this journey, the final week of this series, and this can feel like the hardest part. Like a long hill, you can see the top, you can almost feel the moment you will eclipse it, and yet, you are deftly aware of what lies before you.
This is the moment; you summon all the courage, you take the joy of the journey in where you are, knowing that the hope of the ultimate goal is there.
Just as Jesus marches into Jerusalem, with courage for his road ahead. We too find our own “hosannas” in life. Those moments that help to give us the same courage. To let us know we are on the right path. And that though the troubles, pain, and sorrow will be there, God will guide us through.
How is God pulling you through this week, this season, this time in your life? Where are the Hosannas that offer you hope and courage for the journey ahead?

For the Whole Series
Don’t forget their will be no devotion on Sunday, keep tuned in for the series to continue on Monday.
Solid words. For me it’s also reminder that the hardest work has already been done and if he could do that, well we can draw on that and find courage for whatever we want to tackle and know it won’t be as bad!
